2019 Heard County Homecoming Highlights

(Franklin, GA) — A festive atmosphere took center stage in Franklin this week as the Brave Nation and Heard County High School hosted its annual Homecoming Week.
The celebration included the crowning of the 2019 Homecoming Queen during the halftime of Friday night’s 49-14 region football win over visiting Jordan.
The capacity home crowd cheered loudly as Ms. Lily Langley was crowned as the 2019 Queen by 2018 Queen Ms. Jessica Kirkpatrick.
“I’m just so surprised and honored to be selected as our Homecoming Queen,” said Langley just after being crowned. “I am just so very happy and thankful to everyone for helping me have this memorable moment in my life.”
The first runner-up for queen was Kiera Burden and the second runner-up was Tori Caldwell. Rounding out this year’s female homecoming court were Betty Covington, Alyssa Philpot, and Tori Manders.
Popular senior Brave defensive lineman Mr. Qua Thornton was named the 2019 Homecoming King during a big Pep Rally Friday afternoon. first runner-up was Jacorian Allen and second runner-up was Charles Bryan. Dale Thornhill, Wyn Denney, and Jake Harrod rounded out the male court.
The underclassmen homecoming court representatives for 2019 included junior representatives Hermonie Garza and Elijah Hollingsworth, sophomore representatives Emily Head and Chance Brown, and freshmen representatives Adrianna Hollingsworth and Camden Cosper.
The homecoming parade took place Thursday afternoon with adults and children alike lining the streets of Downtown Franklin to get an up close look at all the hand decorated floats and the participants.
Many civic groups, school clubs, recreation teams, and other businesses showed off their hard work on various floats based on the sports braodcasting inspired homecoming theme, “Tune in for a Braves Win.”
18-year Brave head football coach Tim Barron was the Grand Marshall for this year’s parade.
Another homecoming tradition this year included the participation of the younger Heard County cheerleaders during Friday night’s game.
The students capped off the busy week of activities by attending the Homecoming Dance after Friday night’s game in the school cafeteria.
This year’s always popular dress-up days at HCHS included ‘Sports Fanatic’ Day, ‘Blast from the Past’ Day, ‘Rappers, Rockers, and Chart Toppers’ Day, ‘Disney/Nickelodeon’ Day, and ‘Spirit Day.’
