Lady Braves earn split versus private schools at UNG

(Dahlonega, GA) — The Lady Braves traveled to the University of North Georgia Saturday and walked away with a split after facing two private schools.

The Lady Braves drooped a close 4-2 battle versus Class A’s No. 1 ranked Wesleyan before bouncing back in a big way to crush the Lovett School 14-0 in game two.

Senior Katelyn Jiles started both games on the mound and earned her fourth win of the season in the dominating 14-0 win over the Lions. Jiles went two innings in the Lovett game allowing just a single hit and she also went a strong six innings versus Wesleyan.

Fellow senior Caroline Jones pitched the final two innings of the four inning contest that was called via the run rule. Jones gave up just one hit, one walk, and struck out two.

Five Lady Braves led the way at the plate with multiple hit games including Brittany Graley, Hannah Holden, Mackenzie White, Emma Helton, and Tori Caldwell.

Graley and White each had a single, a double, and three RBI’s.

The senior Graley had a huge day all around as she also singled and doubled in the loss to Wesleyan giving her four total hits on the day.

The Lady Braves are off to a solid 4-2 start and may have the state sleeping on them just a bit as they are currently unranked despite both losses this season coming to No. 1 ranked teams.

The games will get even more serious this week as the team opens the Region 5-AA slate with a trip to Temple tomorrow (5:30 PM) and then a home tilt versus arch rival Callaway Thursday (5:30 PM) in Franklin.

Sandwiched between those games is a tough road non-region affair Wednesday at 6:00 PM versus Northgate in Coweta County.

The Thursday home match-up with Callaway could be especially crucial as the squad coached by former Lady Brave Robyn (Littlefield) McCann sits at 8-2 and is currently on a seven game winning streak.

The Cavs open region play at home versus Lamar County tomorrow.
