HCMS boys claim West Georgia Track Championship

2018 Heard County Middle School Track Team with head coach Trevor Spradlin at Saturday’s West Georgia Small School Championships at Trojan Field in Carrollton

(Carrollton, GA) — The Heard County Middle School Track and Field Team competed at the West Georgia Small School Championships Saturday and the Braves walked away with the Championship while the Lady Braves finished in third place at the all day event at Carrollton High School.

The Braves finished with an impressive team total of 179 points to edge second place Villa Rica (159 points) and third place Bowdon who finished with 130 points.

The Lady Braves tallied 98.5 points behind second place Villa Rica and first place Temple Middle.

Leading the way for the boys were first place medal winners Orrin Rowley, Franklin Jackson, Eli Lawson, and Isaac Walls.

Orrin Rowley earned a top finish in both the High Jump (5-04.00) and the 110 Meter Hurdles (16.54) with a fourth place finish in the 100 Meter Dash.

Jackson claimed gold in the Pole Vault with a leap of 8-06.00 and silver in the High Jump with a fifth place finish in the 400 meter Run.

Eli Lawson ran the 3200 Meter in 14:06:13 to win his gold medal and he also grabbed second place in the 1600 Meter.

Isaac Walls was strong in the field events earning his gold in the Shot Put 31-07.50 and silver in the Discus Throw at 82-09.00.

Other Heard County middle placers were Oren Rogers (2nd – Pole Vault), L.J. Green (3rd – Triple Jump, 5th – 800M, 6th – Long Jump), Blake Baldwin (4th – 200M), Chipper McCluskey (5th – 200M), Alex Barber (3rd – Long Jump, 6th – 400M), Greyson Batchelor (4th – 800M), Aiden Nelms (3rd – 3200M), Zay Goode (4th – 300M Hurdles, 5th – 110M Hurdles), and Braedan Scoggins (5th – Shot Put and Discus).

In the team relays, the Braves finished third in both the 4X100 and the 4X400.

In girls action, several Lady Braves placed and/or earned medals. Mayah Jones finished fourth in the Discus and sixth in the Shot Put while Leslie Allen took seventh and ninth in the same events.

Camille Gaskins took third in the 100 Meter and fifth in the 200 Meter. Chasity Kates was third in the Long Jump and fifth in both the 100 Meter and the 100 meter Hurdles.

Taylor Bailey was fourth in the Triple Jump, fifth in the 1600M, and seventh in the 800M. Kennedy Dixon earned a third place finish in the 3200M and fourth place in the 1600M.

Haley Blair garnered third in the 100 Meter Hurdles and fifth in the 300 Meter Hurdles. Natalie Schneider was fifth in the Triple Jump and sixth in the 400M. Hayden Gay scored a sixth place in the 800M and a seventh place in the 400M.

Hailey Garner took sixth place in the 300 Meter Hurdles while Jasmine Jefferies was ninth in the 200M. The Lady Brave 4×400 team was second while the 4×100 team finished third.

Head middle track coach Trevor Spradlin and assistant coach Kelly Hadley were pleased with the efforts and performances of all the young Brave athletes.

“I’m very proud of all our kids. The boys did an outstanding job all year and we knew coming in we had a chance at first and we got it,” said Spradlin after the meet. “Everyone just persevered and pushed through today and that’s not to take away from our girls they were also tremendous and I am equally proud of them for all they accomplished this year.”
