(Temple, GA) — The Lady Braves jumped out to an 11-0 lead early in an important Region 5-AA road game Tuesday and would never lose that lead knocking off the Temple Lady Tigers by a final score of 36-20.
Stingy defensive play was key in the team’s second win of the season over the region rival. Senior Sage Kelley led the way with 11 points and seven rebounds and sophomore Tori Caldwell had another nice effort with eight points.
The Lady Braves (6-12, 3-2) face a full slate of games this week after last week’s weather cancellations and will hit the road for another big tilt tonight at Callaway as they take on the Lady Cavaliers (5-10, 4-2) in more region play. The Lady Braves will be looking to avenge a five point loss to the Lady Cavs on January 2 in Franklin.
Every region game will be huge for the girls as they push towards the postseason. Lamar County currently sits atop the standings at 6-1 with Spencer and Callaway tied for second place at 4-2. With the game tonight at Callaway and two match-ups with Spencer this Saturday at home and next Tuesday in Columbus, the Lady Braves can do a lot to help themselves in the next seven days.
In boy’s action Tuesday night, the Braves fell to the Tigers 62-48 to split the regular season series.
The game was close before a 15-0 run by the Tigers to end the third quarter put the game just too far out of reach. Junior Alijah Huzzie had another big shooting night scoring 31 including 16 in the final quarter of play.
The Braves (4-14, 3-2) will also hit the road again tonight to battle the Cavaliers in region play.
The teams will both host Jordan for Senior Night Friday in Franklin. The girls will tip at 6:00 PM followed by Senior ceremonies and then the boys’ game at 7:30 PM.
