(Franklin) — Each week during the sports season, HeardCitizen.com brings you a weekly wrap-up of Brave Nation sports including news, notes, a weekly schedule, and the Brave Nation Player of the Week.

NEWS AND NOTES

Stateline Showdown — The second edition of The Stateline Showdon Marching Band Competition takes place this Saturday, September 29 at Staples Stadium from 1:00-10:00 PM. Scheduled bands to perform include Point University, The Marching Braves, Carrollton High, Ola High, Chapel Hill, Veterans High, Manchester, Pike County, and several others.

Region 5-AA Softball Tournament — The Lady Braves will host the region tournament next Thursday, October 4 beginning at noon. The Lady Braves will take on the No. 4 seed at noon to earn a place in the championship game at 6:00 PM. Other games will be at 2:00 and 4:00 PM.

Brave Nation Player of the Week

The Brave Nation Player of the Week is senior varsity football player Mr. Andrew Leak.

Andrew has been a force for a Brave defense this season that has allowed just five points per game in the three wins. 

He has also earned an invite to the Elite Raw Talent All-American Bowl taking place December 26-28 in Atlanta.

Congratulations to Andrew Leak for being named this week’s Brave Nation Player of the Week. 

Class AA State Softball Rankings — The Lady Brave varsity softball team is ranked No. 4 in Class AA in the Week 6 Score Atlanta Poll. The top three includes No. 1 Rockmart, No. 2 Monticello, and No. 3 Banks Co. The Lady Braves host No. 1 Rockmart at HCHS today!

HCMS Football Win — The HCMS Football team won their first game of the season Thursday shutting out Villa Rica 8-0 at home. Will Alford had a big interception on defense. The middle Braves travel to Temple this Thursday.

Region 5-AA Football — The Braves are off this week but in a game that will go far in determining the Region 5-AA Champion, Callaway will host Bremen at Callaway Stadium in Lagrange this Friday night at 7:30 PM. The Braves host Callaway on October 19 and travel to Bremen for the last game of the regular season on November 2.
