(Franklin, GA) — The Heard County Middle School softball team continued their winning ways Thursday as they closed out the regular season with a 14-2 road win over rival Bowdon.
The win gives the squad a 9-1 regular season record and they are currently on a 7-game winning streak as they head into the postseason.
LilyRae Fulford led the way in the circle for the Lady Braves Thursday earning the win after pitching six strong innings.
She allowed just two unearned runs while scattering six hits and striking out 10 Red Devil hitters. Fulford also went 3-for-4 at the plate with two RBI’s.
Natalie Schneider led the way for the offense going 4-for-4 with a double, a triple, and three runs scored.
Other top performers at the plate included Carolyne Garcia with two hits including a double and three RBI’s, Aubree Ussery with two hits and an RBI, and Kallee Crockett with two hits, two RBI’s, and two runs scored.
Alexia Lower and Braleigh Watkins were proficient on the base paths with each swiping two bases.
The squad celebrated its eight graders with an 11-2 win over Mt. Zion in the regular season home final on Tuesday.
It was the tandem of Natalie Schneider and Chloe Scarborough that led the way to the win on the mound. Scarborough tossed three innings allowing no hits and striking out five while Schneider likewise went three innings and gave up only one hit while fanning three.
At the plate, four Lady Braves led the way with multiple hit games. Scarborough had two hits including a triple and drove in three. Ussery, Fulford, and Emily Mock each tallied two hits. Lower and Watkins each had home runs.
The middle school playoffs begin with a semifinal match-up at HCMS at 5:00 PM Wednesday. If the Lady Braves win the semifinal they would then host the Middle School Championship game this Thursday, October 3 at 5:00 PM at HCMS.
