Little Braves Open 2019 Football Season

(Franklin, GA) — All five Heard County Parks and Recreation football teams opened the 2019 season at Staples Stadium on Saturday, September 7 in Franklin.

The highlights of the day included impressive performances and wins for the 8U and 10U Braves as well as an exciting contest between the two HCPR flag football teams.

The most lopsided victory of the day came from the 10U Braves coached by Jeffrey Hodges who shut down Carroll County Maroon by a final score of 32-0.

Leading the way for the Braves offense were Kaden Wood, Benjamin Schory, and Zach Donnell.

Schory had an impressive day at quarterback connecting on two touchdown passes and rushing one in to the endzone himself.

Big Kaden Wood was the recipient of two of those TD tosses including one on a nice screen pass from Schory.

Zach Donnell was a big target for the Braves with a couple of really nice receptions including one for a score. Jack Langley had a nice effort scoring twice on the PAT’s.

Defensively, several Braves played well to shut down the CCM attack including Levi Miller who made a great open field tackle in the second half on a much bigger running back.

The 8U Braves led by head coach Jay Endicott were likewise impressive as they pitched a 28-0 shutout over CCM.

Leading the way for the 8U Braves was Molando Bonner with two TD’s and a PAT. Also scoring big touchdowns for the Braves were 7-year-olds Conner Autrey and Tucker Coleman. Bryson Hayward had two PAT’s in a game the 8U Braves led 21-0 at the half.

The 12U Braves coached by Joe Jones faced a difficult opponent in the Carrollton and fell 32-0 to the Trojans.

In the civil war battle between the two Heard County flag teams, Maroon took down Gray by a final score of 33-13 in a game that featured loads of high-octane action on the turf at Staples.

Lamarcus “L.J.” Echols led the way for Maroon with three touchdowns and 5-year-old Will Coleman wasn’t far behind with two of his own. Daniel Baldwin also scored on a PAT.

For the Gray team it was Jedidiah Janney and Braylen McClendon who found the endzone.

All of the Brave teams debuted some fantastic new uniforms provided by HCPR.

The flag teams will both be back in action this Saturday morning at Staples Stadium while the tackle teams will each travel to Bowdon.
