(Franklin, GA) — The Heard County Middle School football team scored its first win of the young season last Thursday when they knocked off the Villa Rica Wildcats 44-18 on the road.
First year head coach Zack Janney was excited to see his team play so well in the first victory of the season after tough road losses to Callaway and Bremen in weeks one and two.
Jonathon Echols, Gavin Barlow, Antwon Carter, Landon McLendon, and seventh grader Dereon Pearson each scored touchdowns for the Braves while Kenon Mulky came up with the big interception on defense.
“It was big and we really needed that. What was great was seeing five different kids get chance to score. This is such a good group and some of the best kids I have ever coached,” said Janney.
Janney says several kids have really stepped up this season to help lead the way.
“Antwan Carter and Gavin Barlow are a couple of skill guys that have really bought into the program and been really big for us,” says Janney. “And up front Tommy Googe has just been so consistent and is such a leader of our whole group of lineman.”
The Braves face another important league game this week as they welcome Temple Middle School for the first home game of the season this Thursday at 5:30 PM.
